NWJ116 Polymer-Modified Bitumen Waterproofing Membrane

This product is made from SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) thermoplastic elastomer-modified bitumen as the impregnation and coating material, with high-strength polyester felt as the base fabric and fine sand as the separating layer. It is a high-grade, rollable sheet waterproofing material meticulously manufactured using advanced processes.

Thickness: 4.50 mm.

Width: 1.0 m to 2.2 m.

Length: For simply supported beams with a span of 20 m or less, the length of the roll material shall not be less than the beam length. For simply supported beams with a span of 20 m (exclusive) to 40 m, the roll material may be overlapped longitudinally once.

Label in the following order: base, top surface material, bottom surface material, and thickness.

Labeling Example: A polymer-modified bituminous waterproofing membrane with a polyester felt base and a 4.5 mm layer of fine sand on both sides is labeled as: PY S S 4.5

  • Excellent water resistance: Does not absorb water, and its performance does not deteriorate even after prolonged exposure to water;
  • High tensile strength and high elongation; strong resistance to shrinkage, deformation, and cracking of the substrate; exhibits compliance when cracks appear in concrete bridge decks under stress;
  • Excellent resistance to high and low temperatures;
  • Its exceptional mechanical properties and substantial thickness give the roll material outstanding resistance to fatigue and damage during installation;
  • Resistant to aging, salt freeze, and chemical exposure such as acids and alkalis; resistant to mold; and has a long service life;
  • Excellent adhesion: Installed using the hot-melt method, it bonds firmly and durably to the substrate and effectively withstands vehicular traffic loads.

Hot-melt application method: A construction method in which a heating tool is used to melt the backing of the membrane, followed by bonding the membrane to the substrate or bonding one membrane to another.

Applying the Primer: Apply a polymer-modified bitumen primer to the substrate evenly, ensuring no bare spots remain and no buildup occurs. The membrane may be installed only after the primer has dried and is no longer tacky to the touch.

The overlap length of waterproofing membranes in both the longitudinal and transverse directions shall not be less than 100 mm. On the surface of the substrate that has been treated with a primer and allowed to dry, mark the dimensions of the overlap joints and establish reference lines for laying the membranes so that installation can proceed according to these reference lines.

Laying Roll Materials: On box-girder bridge decks, lay the materials transversely from low to high. Evenly heat the asphalt layer on the underside of the roll material and the primer on the subgrade; once the asphalt layer on the underside of the roll material has melted, roll it forward. During the hot-melt laying of the rolls, laying, rolling, and degassing should be performed simultaneously to ensure proper adhesion. The weight of the steel roller should not be less than 15 kg, and its diameter should preferably be 150 mm.

  Applications

Bridge Membrane: Suitable for waterproofing the ballast bed of railway concrete ballasted bridges and the deck of ballastless bridges; waterproofing of bridge decks;

Culvert Membrane: Suitable for waterproofing culverts, tunnels, and the decks of concrete highway bridges.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

  • Packaging: Paper packaging, box packaging, or plastic bag packaging may be used. Paper packaging shall be in the form of full-cylinder wrapping, with the total length of the unwrapped ends at both ends of the cylinder not exceeding 100 mm.
  • Storage: Products of different types and specifications should be stacked separately and must not be mixed. Protect from direct sunlight and rain; ensure adequate ventilation; do not allow contact with substances that could damage the quality of the rolls or affect their performance; keep away from heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 50°C. Store rolls upright in a single layer; during transportation, stack no more than two layers high. If stored flat, the stack height should not exceed three roll heights. Under normal storage and transportation conditions, the shelf life is one year from the date of manufacture.
  • Transportation: When transporting rolls, they should be stored upright. Avoid tilting or stacking them sideways, and protect them from direct sunlight and rain; cover them with a tarp if necessary.
