NWJ115 APP-Modified Asphalt Waterproofing Membrane for Roads and Bridges

  • Details

This product is a specialized material scientifically developed using advanced processes to meet the waterproofing requirements of roads and bridges. It is a waterproofing membrane manufactured with a polyester felt base, coated with plasticized modified asphalt—such as atactic polypropylene (APP) or polyolefin polymers (APAO, APO)—and covered on both sides with a separating layer.

 Product Structure

1. Fine sand

2. Modified Asphalt Hot-Melt Adhesive

3. Polyester felt base

4. Modified Asphalt Hot-Melt Adhesive

5. Polyethylene film, fine sand

Waterproofing membranes are classified by installation method as hot-melt or hot-melt adhesive types. They are classified as Type I or Type II based on the form of the asphalt paving layer. The top surface of the membrane is coated with fine sand. Hot-melt waterproofing membranes are classified by their bottom surface material as polyethylene film or fine sand.

The material used on the underside of waterproofing membranes applied with hot-melt adhesive consists of fine sand.

 Grid Size

Thickness: 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm (hot-melt adhesive type); 3.5 mm, 4.5 mm (hot-melt type);

Width: 1000 mm;

Area: 7.5 m², 10 m², 15 m².

Code Marking

R—Hot melt; J—Hot melt adhesive; S—Fine sand; PE—Polyethylene film.

Products are marked in the following order: installation method, modifier, model, underside material, area, thickness, and this standard number. Hot-melt installation, APP-modified asphalt, Type I, fine sand, 10 m² area, 3.5 mm thick road and bridge waterproofing membrane

Labeled as: Road and Bridge Waterproofing Membrane R APP I S 10 m² 3.5 mm JC/T974-2005

Product Features

  • It offers excellent resistance to high and low temperatures and can withstand compaction at high temperatures during the paving and pouring of hot asphalt concrete.
  • It has high bond strength and adheres well to the substrate, effectively preventing slippage between the waterproofing layer and the substrate.
  • High shear strength, capable of withstanding dynamic loads on bridges.
  • It offers excellent impermeability and water resistance and can withstand water pressure.
  • It offers excellent resistance to impact, tearing, fatigue, and aging, and can withstand the effects of high and low temperatures as well as dynamic loads on the bridge deck.
  • The hot-melt method is easy to apply and produces reliable, durable seams.

Construction Methods

Hot-melt membranes are installed using the hot-melt method; adhesive-backed membranes are installed using the adhesive method.

  • The substrate must be level, firm, dry, and free of dust, grease, and sharp edges.
  • Apply additional treatment to the detailed joints and apply a primer.
  • Unroll the membrane at the position marked by the chalk line, use a heat gun to heat the underside of the membrane and the substrate, and begin laying the membrane, pressing it down as you lay it to remove air bubbles and ensure a strong bond between the membrane and the substrate.
  • When installing roll roofing using the hot-melt method, the asphalt strip at the lap joints should extend approximately 2 mm beyond the edge, be even and straight, and the lap joints and ends should be properly sealed.

 Applications

Suitable for waterproofing and seepage control projects on highways, bridges, airport runways, and other similar structures, as well as for reinforcing and waterproofing asphalt concrete overlay applications on both new and existing reinforced concrete bridge decks;

Suitable for other waterproofing projects subject to dynamic loads.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

  • Packaging: Sealed in special packaging film.
  • Storage: Products of different types and specifications should be stored separately and must not be mixed. Protect from direct sunlight and rain, and ensure adequate ventilation. The storage temperature should not exceed 50°C. When stored upright, products must be stacked in a single layer; during transportation, they may be stacked upright in no more than two layers. Under normal storage and transportation conditions, the shelf life is one year from the date of manufacture.
  • Shipping: Prevent tilting or lateral pressure during transport; cover with a tarp if necessary.
