QQC-701 SBS Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membrane

This product is a waterproofing membrane with excellent root-resistant performance, manufactured using a polyester felt as the substrate, an SBS-modified asphalt adhesive containing imported chemical root inhibitors as the coating material, and a barrier layer applied to both sides. The material offers excellent root-resistant and waterproofing properties, effectively preventing plant roots from penetrating the waterproofing layer and ensuring the integrity of the overall waterproofing system. It also possesses the advantages of SBS membranes, including low-temperature resistance, resistance to aging, high tensile strength, high elongation, and strong adaptability to substrate deformation. It is currently one of the most commonly used root-resistant materials in China.

Code Marker

The product marking consists of the standard number for the “Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membranes for Green Roofs” standard, the product name, and the standard marking for the membrane used.

Example: An elastomer-modified bitumen root-resistant waterproofing membrane with an area of 10 m², a thickness of 4 mm, a polyethylene film on both the top and bottom surfaces, and a Type II polyester felt backing is labeled as: GB/T 35468-2017 Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membrane GB 18242 SBS II PY PE PE 410

  • It serves a dual purpose: preventing plant roots from penetrating and providing waterproofing. It can withstand penetration by plant roots while maintaining its waterproofing properties over the long term.
  • It has high tensile strength and high elongation, and is highly adaptable to shrinkage, deformation, and cracking of the substrate.
  • It forms a high-strength waterproof layer with excellent resistance to pressurized water.
  • High resistance to impact, tearing, fatigue, corrosion, and mold; excellent weather resistance.
  • Excellent resistance to high and low temperatures, making it suitable for both hot and cold regions;
  • The hot-melt method is easy to apply and produces reliable, durable seams.

Construction Methods

Hot-melt application: A method in which a heating tool is used to melt the backing of the membrane, allowing it to bond to the substrate or to another membrane.

Applications

It is primarily used for root barrier and waterproofing applications on the roof slabs of underground structures with green roofs and landscaping.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

  • Packaging: Sealed in special packaging film.
  • Storage: Products of different types and specifications should be stored separately and must not be mixed. Protect from direct sunlight and rain, and ensure adequate ventilation. The storage temperature should not exceed 50°C. When stored upright, products must be stacked in a single layer; during transport, they may be stacked upright in no more than two layers. Under normal storage and transport conditions, the shelf life is one year from the date of manufacture.
  • Shipping: Prevent tilting or lateral pressure during transport; cover with a tarp if necessary.

Performance Metrics

The physical and mechanical performance specifications comply with the requirements of GB 18242-2008, “Elastomer-Modified Asphalt Waterproofing Membranes.”

It also meets the technical requirements of JGJ 155-2013, “Technical Specifications for Green Roof Engineering.”

The performance requirements for root-penetration resistance comply with the standards set forth in GB/T 35468-2017, “Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membranes for Green Roofs.”
