QQC-703 Polyethylene-Reinforced Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membrane

  • Details

This product is a waterproofing membrane manufactured with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) core and modified asphalt—to which chemical root-barriers have been added—applied as top and bottom coatings. The high-density polyethylene substrate possesses excellent density and exceptional toughness; when plant roots reach the surface of the polyethylene substrate, it effectively prevents them from penetrating; In addition to providing mechanical root barrier protection, the addition of chemical root inhibitors to the modified asphalt coating ensures that both the base and the coating possess root-blocking capabilities. This also prevents plant roots from entering through the membrane’s lap joints, forcing the roots to change their growth direction and spread outwards.

Code Marker

T—Hot-melt type; R—Polymer-modified bitumen root-resistant waterproofing membrane; E—High-density polyethylene reinforcing layer; E—Polyethylene film.

Example: A 4.0 mm thick, hot-melt polyethylene-backed, polyethylene film, polymer-modified bitumen, root-resistant waterproofing membrane is labeled as:

GB/T 35468-2017 Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membranes GB 18967 T REE 4

Product Features

  • Exceptional elongation, making it suitable for building waterproofing projects subject to significant settlement deformation and prone to vibration;
  • While primarily relying on chemical root barrier properties, the dense structure of the membrane also provides a supplementary mechanical root barrier, making it a waterproofing material with dual root barrier functions;
  • The material has good impermeability, strong resistance to structural deformation, and good flexibility;
  • It offers excellent corrosion resistance; even when immersed in acidic or alkaline water for extended periods, its waterproof properties and durability remain unaffected;
  • It is reasonably priced and offers excellent value for money as a root-resistant waterproofing material.

Construction Methods

Hot-melt application: A method in which a heating tool is used to melt the backing of the membrane, allowing it to bond to the substrate or to another membrane.

  • Construction Process Flowchart:

Cleaning the Base

Apply the primer

Node Processing

Large-Scale Tiling

Overlap Treatment

Applications

It is primarily used for waterproofing projects such as green roofs, basement ceiling slabs, and water feature landscapes.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

  • Packaging: The rolls are shrink-wrapped using specialized packaging film.
  • Storage: Products of different types and specifications should be stacked separately and must not be mixed. Protect from direct sunlight and rain, and ensure adequate ventilation. The storage temperature should not exceed 45°C. Rolls should be stored flat, with stacks no higher than five layers. Under normal transportation and storage conditions, the shelf life of the product is one year from the date of manufacture.
  • Transportation: Prevent tilting or lateral pressure; handle with care during loading and unloading; do not throw the cargo; cover with a tarp if necessary.

Performance Metrics

Comply with the requirements of the GB 18967-2009 standard, “Modified Asphalt Polyethylene-Reinforced Waterproofing Membranes.”

It also complies with the technical requirements of JGJ 155-2013, “Technical Specifications for Green Roof Engineering.”

The performance requirements for root-penetration resistance comply with the standards set forth in GB/T 35468-2017, “Root-Resistant Waterproofing Membranes for Green Roofs.”
