Guide to Routine Maintenance of Oilfield Drilling Tools

Regular maintenance is essential for extending the service life of oilfield drilling tools and ensuring their consistent performance, including power wrenches, manual wrenches, sling clamps, tongs, and downhole tools. Most failures of oilfield equipment are caused by insufficient routine maintenance rather than quality issues.
First, operators should clean all tools after each use. If mud, crude oil, sand, and dust are left on the surfaces, they can cause wear and corrosion. Second, all rotating and connecting parts must be lubricated regularly. Specialized high-pressure grease can reduce friction under high-torque operating conditions and prevent jamming.
Third, wear inspections must be conducted weekly. Inspect the tooth surfaces, sliding sleeves, lifting pads, and connecting threads of the power clamp. If excessive wear, deformation, or cracks are detected, replace the parts immediately to prevent safety incidents.
Fourth, store drilling tools in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Long-term exposure to a damp environment
